What does Ọ̀sìlàjà mean?
A published Yoruba name source analyses the name as Ọṣìn + là + ìjà, meaning “The (head of the) Ọṣìn divinity has brought peace.” The name is recorded as common in Ijebu, with Laja as a variant.
That linguistic meaning does not by itself prove that every Osilaja family line worshipped Ọṣìn or held a priestly role. We keep that distinction clear while family and archival research continues.
